Essi hanno consentito pe r la prima volta anche l’osservazione di eventi “di coincidenza”\, c on l’arrivo simultaneo di particelle in rivelatori distanti. L’utilizz o di questi contatori operanti in coincidenza permise alla fine degli anni ’30 di stabilire l’esistenza degli sciami atmosferici estesi\, enormi cascate di particelle secondarie create nell’atmosfera terrestre da una particella primaria di elevatissima energia. Oggi la tecnica delle coinci denze tra rivelatori distanti anche migliaia di chilometri è ampiamente u tilizzata nell’ambito del Progetto EEE per cercare eventi rarissimi\, ch e potrebbero coinvolgere l’esistenza di più sciami atmosferici correlat i. Nata nei primi anni Settanta per applic azioni in\ncampo medico\, la TAC si è poi guadagnata un ruolo di crescent e importanza anche in altri ambiti\, fra cui\nquello dei Beni Culturali. N egli ultimi anni\, infatti\, la tomografia\, è entrata a far parte di que l ventaglio di\nindagini scientifiche che sempre più frequentemente vengo no applicate su opere d’arte e reperti antichi a\nscopo di studio e/o pe r la diagnostica preliminare a un intervento di restauro. In questo contes to la TAC\nassume un ruolo di particolare rilievo\, essendo in grado di fo rnire informazioni sulla tecnica di costruzione\,\ngli elementi costitutiv i\, la struttura e lo stato di conservazione di un manufatto. Il nostro gr uppo di ricerca si occupa ormai da diversi anni dello sviluppo di sistemi tomografici\, che\, se necessario\, possono venire utilizzati anche in sit u\, al fine di garantire la sicurezza delle opere e limitarne gli spostame nti. Nel seminario verranno presentati i risultati di alcune indagini real izzate dal nostro gruppo\, in collaborazione con importanti Musei e Centri di restauro.
